Creative iPhone Amplifiers

With everything going so digital these days, it’s sometimes nice to bring a little analog charm into ones life. One creative way was thought up by Christopher Locke of Austin, Texas. Instead of designing a new speaker to plug into the iPhone, Locke has reshaped brass instruments, turning them into amplifiers. Taking salvaged trumpets, trombones and french horns, he’s made creative and beautiful pieces for the home: he calls them “Analog Tele-Phonographers.”

The inspiration behind his designs comes from the shape of old fashioned phonographs that were used in homes as early as 1877. Using assorted machine parts in addition to the instruments, Locke creates each custom unit. Each piece is unique and does not require any external power source. They are compatible with both iPhones and iPads, so if you find yourself interested in some old world charm in your living space, Locke can build you a custom example. Check out the video below is see how they work.
